This bohemian inspired anniversary session at Under Canvas is filled with earthy romantic vibes that will inspire adventure elopements and couple sessions alike.
I love when my vision and style perfectly aligns with a couple. Everyone wins. This is what happens every time I work with Bryna + Will. I’ve been fortunate enough to document many of their life moments over the last four years and each time is an adventure! Their couple session at Max Patch was no different.
We knew we wanted to create their photos in the mountains, but they wanted something unique. When we found Under Canvas, with its close proximity to Max Patch, we were all sold. How cool is this luxury campground filled with glamping tents and teepees? You get the perks of hotel hospitality in a remote valley full of views.

There are several options for which tent you’d like to stay in. You can choose one with multiple beds, multiple rooms and even a clear ceiling for stargazing. Bryna and Will chose a tent with a teepee out front for Dallas and I to stay in. Probably the best place I’ve ever stayed for a session.
There is on-site dining, an adventure concierge and a campfire with s’mores ready to go. The staff is extremely kind and ready to make your stay the best. Having the tents to get ready in is perfect for couples that are headed out to explore, especially if you’re getting ready for an elopement style day!
Will styled his outfit with a dried floral boutonniere from Flaura Botanica, a bolo tie and an uncommon rose suit color to show off his individual personality. Bryna brought in the earthy vibes with her lace, boho inspired dress from Reclamation. Laura incorporated more of the dried florals into Bryna’s bouquet. This gave it a super natural feeling while also making it durable for the duration of the trip. Having a florist who knows how to make hearty bouquets is key for elopements and adventure sessions.
Peep the little teepee behind them. There’s two twin beds in there! That’s where Dallas and I slept and I loved it. Waking up in this valley is pretty rad.
I’m obsessed with the floral work Laura did for Bryna’s hat. Bridal hats are really popular and with good reason! This added a little more of a folky flare to her look.
After breakfast and photos around the glamping site at Under Canvas, we hopped in the Jeep and headed out to Max Patch in the Pisgah National Forest. This bald is known for its placement on the Appalachian Trail and panoramic views.
We were really lucky with weather and got a nice overcast day. Usually I would recommend a sunrise or sunset at Max Patch. It’s nice to visit from the Spring to the Fall depending on what colors you’re looking for.
The hike to the top is short and easy, but man are the views rewarding! The Smokies in North Carolina show off in one direction while the vistas to Tennessee fill the other. The bald stretches down the state line and there is no wrong way to look. There is usually a good amount of people here, but its such a large area and you can find a private place for the two of you to enjoy your surroundings.
For couples wanting the epic view from an adventure session, but don’t want to hike a super long way, Max Patch is perfect. In my opinion, it’s one of the most beautiful outdoor locations in the South East and brings East Coast elopements up to the caliber of the PNW. These blues and greens are a staple of the Southern Appalachians.
You can definitely use Bryna’s barefoot attitude as inspiration for your adventurous couple’s session. There’s always a reason to run away to the mountains with your partner whether you’re engaged, eloping or celebrating a milestone like Will and Bryna. It’s easy to make a weekend out of it or add it on to your vacation! Look for elopement photographers in the area to avoid travel fees and get stunning photos.
